According to BBC Sport, Manchester United are unlikely to sign Christian Eriksen from Tottenham Hotspur in the latter stages of the transfer window.

The report claims that United have held talks with the Denmark international ahead of a potential switch to Old Trafford before the window slams shut.

However, the piece from Simon Stone explains that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are of the opinion that Eriksen wants to move to Spain.

Real Madrid – who have previously been linked with Eriksen – are not in the race against the clock to complete a deal for the 27-year-old as their transfer window will be open until the start of September, should they wish to pursue his services.

However, Tottenham can only sign players before Thursday’s deadline and therefore Mauricio Pochettino’s side are in a tough spot.

Celtic’s Olivier Ntcham has been criticised by Jackie McNamara for his outspoken comments last week, as reported by website Football Insider.

What’s he said?

The Hoops midfielder spoke to French newspaper L’Equipe about his current situation at Celtic Park, criticising the standard of opposition and lamenting the fact he could not join Porto last summer.

They were comments that attracted the ire of manager Neil Lennon, who will deal with the situation when the Frenchman returns to the club’s training base at Lennoxtown.

McNamara thinks he is simply working his ticket out of the club but has criticised the player for being disrespectful to his employers and Scottish football.

As quoted by Football Insider, the former Celtic captain said:

“I think his comments are disappointing, Neil Lennon’s said that as well. It’s disrespectful for the club and the league.

“It’s given him the opportunity and the platform to play and, especially last season, he wasn’t really strong in his performances. If it was that inferior then he should be standing out more, which he didn’t.

“Obviously the lad’s just looking to move on there. It’s a strange one, is he disruptive when he’s playing? The most important thing is whether he is contributing to the team. If they’re doing it on the pitch they can say what they want, do what they want at certain times.”

How should Lennon handle Ntcham?

With this spat taking place so publicly, the expectation will now be that it is all dealt with internally and privately.

Lennon had his say in public, letting fans know that the player’s behaviour was out of order, so there’s no use letting it all drag along in the open.

With the midfielder’s contract not expiring until 2023, Celtic should hold firm in the face of any low-ball offers from clubs looking to capitalise on the situation.

The best case scenario here is that the air is cleared and Ntcham is either sold for his true market value or keeps his head down and gets on with the task of helping deliver trophies for the club.

It’s not the first time a footballer has made outlandish comments while away on international duty and in this case there’s no need for it to critically impact the relationship between Ntcham and Celtic.

What do Crystal Palace fans want to see this summer? The answer is probably a complete revamp of their team’s attack.

So when reports from outlets such as The Sun started to come out about Roy Hodgson wanting to keep Jordan Ayew at Selhurst Park following his initial loan spell, some supporters may have started to fear the worst.

Should Crystal Palace manage to sign someone like Jay Rodriguez, though, then surely that would end Hodgson’s reported pursuit of Ayew on a permanent deal?

Rodriguez, according to the Burnley Express, is a target for the south London club and is a very similar type of forward to Ayew.

Both Rodriguez and Ayew are predominantly No.9s, who can also play out wide. Last season, the former took to the wings on nine occasions (via WhoScored), while some of the latter’s previous managers have been quick to highlight his versatility on more than one occasion.

“Ayew can play wide or through the middle and I like that versatility,” Paul Clement was quoted as saying by ESPN back in 2017 just prior to Ayew’s arrival at Swansea City.

Considering all of that, there might just not be a need for Ayew anymore if Rodriguez joins the Eagles.

As well as being able to provide Hodgson with the same kind of versatility, if he remains fit, the Englishman could bring more goals to the table. Back in the 2013/14 Premier League season, he scored 15 goals, a tally Ayew could only dream of, with the 27-year-old yet to hit double digits in a single campaign in English football. And, Rodriguez’s stats this season swing the battle in his favour even more as he managed to grab an impressive 22 goals for the Baggies.

Ayew can probably kiss any hope he had of staying at Selhurst Park goodbye if Rodriguez arrives.

Dean Henderson’s latest comments in the Daily Mail will dishearten a number of Sheffield United fans as a permanent move for the stopper now looks unlikely.

What’s he said then?

The youngster was very open when talking about his ambitions and where he believes he should be at this point in his career.

The Manchester United goalkeeper said: “That was the dream as a kid growing up, what you always aspire to be. You always watch Premier League Years on the telly and to know that could be me next year, I can’t wait.

‘Whether that is at Manchester United, Sheffield United, wherever, I’m good enough to be a Premier League goalkeeper. I deserve that chance.

“It’s a tough one to say where. But do I think I should be playing at Manchester United now? Yes I do.

“I think I am good enough and I would help the team a lot, in a positive way.

“If not there I’m sure I could go back to Sheffield United, play a season and then I’ll prove to Manchester United what they are missing.

“I would give my right leg to play for that football club.”

Loan deal looks more likely

These comments make it seem increasingly unlikely that the Blades will sign Henderson on a permanent deal this summer.

The Steel City outfit have been looking at a £7m deal for the 22-year-old according to The Sun (May 2, page 56), but it seems that he may only return on loan at best.

Indeed, the stopper had a great affinity with the Yorkshire club, but the line saying ‘I would give my right leg to play for that football club’ shows what his true ambitions are.

The goalie clearly wants to forge a career at Old Trafford rather than Bramall Lane, but Blades fans can at least take solace in the fact that he didn’t rule out a return on loan.

The Yorkshire outfit will certainly be interested in that type of deal, but Chris Wilder will undoubtedly be gutted if he can’t land his target on a permanent basis.

كشف المدرب البرتغالي جوزيه مورينيو، المدير الفني لنادي توتنهام هوتسبير، أنه اختار لنفسه لقبًا جديدًا، بدلًا من لقب “سبيشال وان”.

اشتهر مورينيو بوصف شخصيته، حيث أطلق على نفسه لقب “سبيشال وان” عندما تواجد في الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز، لأول مرة عام 2004 مع تشيلسي، وبعد العودة في 2013 أصبح “ذا هابي وان”.

In the fixture at the John Smith’s Stadium earlier in the season, Liverpool really struggled to find gaps in what was a sturdy Huddersfield backline.

Chances were few and far between for both sides, with the Terriers having two more shots than the Reds on the day and also managing to get close to them on the possession stats with 47.8% of the ball.

Huddersfield won more aerials duels and made six more tackles than Jurgen Klopp’s men back in October, and only a dazzling run and through ball from Xherdan Shaqiri to set Mohamed Salah in to score separated the two sides on the scoresheet.

That man in question, Shaqiri, has been somewhat frozen out of the side since the turn of the year. The former Bayern Munich man has played just 40 minutes of football since starting the 1-1 draw against Leicester at the end of January, for reasons which we do not yet know.

His exclusion has been strange, as he was playing some good football in the first half of the season – his double against Manchester United in the 3-1 win at Anfield was perhaps his best moment in a red shirt.

The 27-year-old is always positive on the ball, and is a player who is keen to drive forward and test opposition defences with his long-range shooting ability or his ability to pick an eye-of-the-needle pass – yes, his defensive discipline may be questionable, but that shouldn’t be a problem against the league’s lowest scorers.

It doesn’t seem likely that he will be drafted into a side currently on a nine-game winning run, but this fixture has all the makings of a potential banana skin at Anfield this evening, and may require the talents of the Swiss international if Jan Siewert’s team are proving to be a tough nut to crack – the Terriers are also already relegated, so all the pressure will be on Liverpool.

Whatever is going on between Klopp and Shaqiri, it may need to be put to rest in order to keep the Reds’ title hopes alive, as anything other than a win will surely ensure the trophy ends up in Manchester City’s hands yet again.

Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react after Porto midfielder Danilo said that the Reds’ fearsome attacking trio of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah ‘won’t pass him by’.

The Portugal international was speaking ahead of the Champions League quarter-final tie at Anfield this evening, the first leg of a match-up which will see a place in the semi-finals await the winner.

Mane, Firmino and Salah have hit 55 goals between them this season, and are arguably up there with the best attacking trios in world football.

Liverpool fans have found confidence from Danilo’s defiant – but somewhat risky – words, and are motivated to make the 27-year-old regret ever opening his mouth.
