Chelsea want to re-sign "special" star who’s shades of Cole & Hudson-Odoi

Many Chelsea fans thought the Blues could struggle to score at the same rate they did last campaign under new manager Enzo Maresca, as his football is more methodical, looking to slow the game down and assert control.

However, Maresca has managed to implement the perfect blend, controlling games effectively with 56.4% possession, whilst still creating high xG chances, forcing artificial transitions, taking 15.3 shots per 90, and scoring 35 goals.

Chelsea are the top scoring team in the Premier League this season, four goals ahead of second-place Liverpool in this statistic and the Blues could be looking to add another creative attacker, who could take them up to another level.

Chelsea could sign Premier League starlet

According to reports from CaughtOffiside, Chelsea are interested in Southampton wonderkid, Tyler Dibling. Manchester United are also said to be interested in the 18-year-old superstar, alongside Newcastle, Tottenham, Aston Villa and West Ham.

The report states Dibling would cost at least €25m (around £20m), but the Saints are determined to fight to keep hold of their young superstar, having already lost him once to Chelsea back in 2022, before returning to Southampton just two months later.

Hailed as a “special” player by pundit Danny Murphy, Dibling has made 16 appearances so far this season, scoring once, providing two assists, and totalling 957 minutes played. He has also shown his versatility, playing multiple positions for Russel Martin’s side, including right-wing, attacking midfield, and even centre-forward.

What Tyler Dibling could bring to Chelsea

The 18-year-old attacker has been praised as a “creative” talent by scout Jacek Kulig, who spoke about the youngsters’ elegance on the ball and his close control in tight spaces.

Thus, his ability to manipulate the ball in confined spaces, find clever passes through tight gaps, and drift inside to get shots off, is reminiscent of Chelsea legend, Joe Cole.

But another player Dibling is compared to, and one who has also played for Chelsea is Callum Hudson-Odoi. Stats-led website FBref suggest the two wide players are “similar players” and here’s why…

First and foremost, both of the wingers in question are creative forces who like to use their full toolset to create chances for both themselves and others.

The ability to carry the ball themselves into the opposition half, commit defenders 1v1, find clever passes into the box, but also cut inside and get a shot off themselves, makes them unpredictable with their actions.

Whilst Hudson-Odoi is currently completing more key passes, generating more shot-creating actions, and completing more progressive carries per 90, Dibling is actually providing more assists, with 0.18 to Hudson-Odoi’s 0.08, and more xAG (expected assisted goals) per 90, with 0.12 to Odoi’s 0.10.

Chelsea have shown their quality in the attacking areas this season, being the top scorers in the Premier League but the impact of a creative winger who has a complete toolset, much like Jadon Sancho who was also signed this summer, gives Maresca the opportunity to mix up his approach, using more direct wingers in certain games, and better creative passers in others.

INEOS make £62m "monster" a priority January transfer target for Man Utd

Manchester United have made signing a £62 million “monster” a priority for the upcoming January transfer window, according to a recent report. The Red Devils made the decision to part ways with sporting director Dan Ashworth over the weekend, but they hope that plans for the New Year will not be affected by this decision.

INEOS working on a deal to sign £51m-rated midfielder for Amorim at Man Utd

United could be about to land a player who has been linked with them for years.

ByBrett Worthington Dec 10, 2024 Man Utd transfer news

January may be a busy time for United if things go their way, as Ruben Amorim is surely going to want one, possibly two, fresh faces arriving at Old Trafford. It is three weeks away from opening, and there are plenty of players being linked with a move to United, one being midfielder Martin Baturina.

The Croatian is someone that has been linked with the Red Devils for a while now, and United are keen on a deal that could be completed for around £20 million. However, PSG are leading the race, and they are trying to wrap up a deal as soon as possible.

It may not come as a surprise, but United are also looking to sign Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona, a move that would end a few years of links to Old Trafford. The Dutchman’s relationship with Barcelona has turned bitter, and he is now not willing to extend his stay at the club. This has alerted United, along with Chelsea, in looking to agree to a transfer. A move in January may be hard to do for United, but it could be one they look to complete in the summer.

Man Utd make £62m "monster" a priority January transfer target

According to a report from Spain, Manchester United have made striker Victor Osimhen a priority target for January. The 25-year-old is currently on a season-long loan deal at Turkish side Galatasaray from Napoli.

The forward, who has been dubbed a “monster” by analyst Raj Chohan, looked set to leave the Italian side on a permanent basis in the summer, as Chelsea and teams from the Saudi Pro League were interested in a deal, but neither were willing to pay what Napoli wanted. Instead, he was sent out on loan to the Turkish giants, where he has really thrived in the league and in Europe.

This report states that United have made signing the striker a priority in January, but they do face stiff competition, as so have Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain. All three teams are looking to improve their forward line, and the fact that Napoli are still looking to sell Osimhen makes him a player to target.

Napoli are keen to sell the Nigerian international so they can put the money back into their own team. The Italian side, which is led by Antonio Conte, are looking to get around €75 million, which is roughly £62 million. Galatasaray are keen to keep hold of Osimhen but do not have the resources to sign him on a permanent deal.

West Ham must regret selling a star who’s rivalling Yamal in 2024/25

West Ham United are desperate to secure a return to European football this season after missing out on a place under David Moyes in 2023/24 after finishing ninth in the Premier League.

It led to the Scotsman’s departure from the London Stadium, ending his second stint in charge of the club, allowing for Julen Lopetegui to take the reins of the Hammers.

The board backed the new boss spending around £120m on new talent during the summer, giving him all of the tools to be a success during his debut campaign in charge.

However, it has yet to have a huge impact on results, restricting them to 14th place in the Premier League going into the third international break.

The last starting lineup against Everton included four of the summer arrivals in East London, but they were unable to provide the difference in a meeting that ended 0-0.

They might wish they had kept hold of a couple of attacking talents who departed the Hammers during the 2023/24 season.

West Ham’s departures in 2023/24

Academy graduate Declan Rice enjoyed seven years in the club’s first team before departing to join London rivals Arsenal in a £105m deal – a record for an English player.

He wasn’t the only midfielder to depart the Hammers during that summer window, with attacking-minded midfielder Nikola Vlasic leaving after just 12 months at the club – joining Serie A outfit Torino for a fee in the region of £10m.

Nikola Vlasic for West Ham.

It was another disappointing transfer from hierarchy, losing around £20m in the space of a year on a player who ultimately wasn’t at the level required for England’s top flight.

January 2024 was another window of departures for the Hammers with £30m signing Said Benrahma ending his three-and-a-half years at the club after joining from Brentford in the summer of 2020.

The Algerian scored 24 times in his 155 appearances during his time in the capital, but it wasn’t enough to secure his future in London – swapping England for France and joining Lyon.

However, the departure of one other attacking-minded player may have been too premature given his form away from the London Stadium in the last few months.

The player who West Ham must regret offloading

Spanish talent Pablo Fornals spent four-and-a-half years as a West Ham player, playing a crucial role in their Europa Conference League triumph during the 2022/23 season under former boss Moyes.

Pablo-Fornals

The now 28-year-old scored the winning goal in the semi-final victory over Dutch side AZ Alkmaar, sending the Hammers to the final in Prague, ultimately allowing them to claim their maiden Conference League title.

Fornals featured over 200 times, scoring 23 times often featuring as a ten or even in a wide left position, cutting inside into his stronger right football – similarly to that of Benrahma who operated off that flank.

However, he was eventually sold in January 2024 to Spanish side Real Betis for just £6.8m – a decision that has proven to be a huge mistake given his recent form for the LaLiga outfit.

West Ham midfielder Pablo Fornals.

The Spaniard managed to score three times after his move towards the back end of 2023/24, but it’s his form from the current campaign that has seen him rival one of Europe’s best young talents.

Lamine Yamal has been catapulted into the limelight in recent months after his displays with Barcelona and the Spain national side, but the 17-year-old has struggled to get the better of Fornals in numerous key areas.

The “unbelievable” Fornals, as dubbed by journalist Karl Matchett, may have registered far fewer combined goals and assists, but he’s matched the youngster for goals per shot on target so far this campaign.

He’s also registered 27 passes into the opposition’s penalty area, just three fewer than Yamal, a statistic that remarkably ranks him sixth in Europe’s top five leagues, showcasing his attacking qualities – something which West Ham desperately lacks with their tally of just 13 league goals scored this season.

It’s great to see a former Hammer starring, especially after his long stint at the club, but many will be questioning why he was sold given his performances and figures from the last few months.

Lopetegui has struggled since his appointment, with his compatriot potentially helping him get out of trouble had Moyes not offloaded him at the start of the year.

Arsenal insiders respond to talks over signing once-£137m star for Arteta

Arsenal insiders have responded to whispers that they’ve held talks over signing a once-£137 million star for manager Mikel Arteta, ahead of a potential transfer opportunity in 2025.

Arsenal transfer chiefs seeking fresh wide options

A few star wingers have been linked with moves to north London recently, with Bukayo Saka’s injury scare pushing Emirates Stadium transfer chiefs into looking at alternatives to the £195,000-per-week star.

"Incredible" Arsenal ace now "close" to injury return in boost for Arteta

There’s been good news this week.

ByEmilio Galantini Oct 30, 2024

Bryan Mbeumo is a target for Arsenal ahead of January, according to some reports, while it is believed Arteta is a real admirer of Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo – who they’re contemplating a move for at the end of this Premier League season.

Saka returned to the starting eleven against Liverpool, opening the scoring in a 2-2 draw on Sunday, but was absent for their previous clashes against Bournemouth and Shakhtar Donetsk after injuring his hamstring on international duty with England.

While the 23-year-old is back fit, and set to play a major role in their title challenge, his brief spell on the sidelines brought attention to Edu Gaspar’s need to sign quality back-up options to Saka – not to mention other key members of Arteta’s squad.

The Spaniard has been forced to deal with a host of injuries to important members of the squad this season, and if their trouble with player fitness continues, it could seriously threaten to derail their hunt for a first league crown in 21 years.

Former recruitment chief Mick Brown, who is well-connected from his spells working for Premier League sides, suggested recently that Arsenal are planning to bring in quality alternatives for mainstay stars, including Saka.

“I’ve heard the Arsenal hierarchy have held discussions about what happens if certain players get injured, and that includes Saka,” said Brown to Football Insider.

“They want to get to a point where they have a solid backup for every player in their starting XI. Long-term, they’ll be planning to strengthen in every position.”

Brown, in another interview with Football Insider this week, stated that he believes Arsenal have their eyes on Leroy Sane – who looks set to leave Bayern Munich at the end of this season.

He claims Arsenal have been working on a deal for Sane “in the background”, sparking whispers of potential talks for the Germany international could be snapped up at zero cost.

Arsenal respond to "talks held" over deal for Leroy Sane

Today, a report from The Boot Room and journalist Graeme Bailey shared the Gunners’ response to this.

Indeed, it is believed Arsenal have played down that they’ve “held talks about a deal” for Sane, and they claim that their priorities lie elsewhere despite his agents attempting to secure him a move away and informing sides that he’ll be a free agent next year.

liverpool-leroy-sane-premier-league-transfers-mo-salah

Arteta knows Sane well from their time together at Man City, where he once commanded a seismic £137 million price tag, and the pair enjoyed quite a stay at Eastlands where they won trophies galore.

On a reported £320,000-per-week, and nearing the age of 30, it is perhaps clear why Arsenal are hesitant – even if Sane has showcased his quality on world football’s biggest stages time and time again.

Sri Lanka on top again as Ramesh Mendis, Praveen Jayawickrama run through West Indies

Despite Chase’s five-for, visitors are 273 runs behind Sri Lanka

Stumps West Indies worked themselves back into the game in the first two sessions, taking Sri Lanka’s last seven wickets for 105. But then they gave up all the ground they had gained in the evening, losing six wickets for 54 runs.Essentially, what this means, is that despite Roston Chase’s five-wicket haul, West Indies are 273 runs behind Sri Lanka, with only four wickets remaining. They bat deep, but the pitch is already taking substantial turn, particularly for Sri Lanka’s spinners. So dominant were the slow bowlers of both sides on day two, that no batter could make a half-century; Dinesh Chandimal and Kraigg Brathwaite came closest, hitting 45 and 41 respectively.Sri Lanka lost their overnight pair in the first hour, and lost the remainder of their batters either side of lunch, but still, it was the last session of the day that was most dramatic. West Indies had restricted Sri Lanka to 386 – a good score, but not the gargantuan one that the hosts had threatened at the end of day one. Brathwaite and makeshift opener Jermaine Blackwood (he was taking the place of the concussed Jeremy Solozano, with concussion substitute Shai Hope to come in at No. 4) made a half-decent start, too, putting on 46 for the first wicket. But as is often the case in Galle – though often not as early as the second day – once one partnership is broken, several wickets fall in quick succession.Blackwood was the first to be dismissed. He had been lbw on 2 against Dushmantha Chameera, but the umpire turned down the appeal and Sri Lanka did not review. He had seemed to have become comfortable at the crease, particularly against Lasith Embuldeniya, whom he launched for a straight six, but then missed a straightening delivery from the same bowler, and was correctly adjudged lbw (Blackwood burned a review).Four overs later, Praveen Jayawickrama – the other left-arm spinner in Sri Lanka’s XI – got a ball to erupt from the straight, and take Nkrumah Bonner’s glove on the way to slip, where Dhananjaya de Silva took a sharp catch to his left.Roston Chase had figures of 5 for 83•AFP/Getty Images

Offspinner Ramesh Mendis then took two wickets in two big-spinning balls, split across two overs. His first victim was Brathwaite, who was caught at leg slip. His second was Shai Hope, who was snaffled at short leg – both batters having been out off the inside edge. Mendis would also have Chase caught at short leg before the day was out, after Jayawickrama had nightwatchman Jomel Warrican caught behind. Although West Indies have Jason Holder and Kyle Mayers at the crease, and Joshua de Silva and Rahkeem Cornwall to come, it is not guaranteed, on what has suddenly become such a devious surface, that they will surpass the follow-on score. The first dismissal of the day, however, had been the strangest. Dhananjaya de Silva had added five runs to his overnight 56 and seemed to be batting nicely, when he was a touch late playing a defensive shot to a back-of-a-length Shannon Gabriel ball. He made a good connection, but the ball dropped by his feet and seemed to be bouncing into the stumps, so he turned around to swipe at it. He only nicked it the first time, and had to swipe again, but on that second occasion, dislodged the bails with his bat, and was out hit wicket.Dimuth Karunaratne, who was on 132, had started the day nervously, and was out to some excellent wicketkeeping having added only 15 to his score – Joshua da Silva whipping off the bails after Chase had drawn Karunaratne forward with a loopy offbreak.Jomel Warrican, who had gone wicketless on day one, took three wickets either side of lunch – the dismissal of Ramesh, whose glove Warrican collected with a delivery that leapt off the surface, being the most spectacular of the three. Chandimal, who had battled the spinners as well as anyone on day two, was out to Chase, after Rahkeem Cornwall anticipated and intercepted a reverse sweep. Chase dismissed Embuldeniya to complete his fourth five-for in Tests. At the time, it had seemed like West Indies had clawed themselves to near parity by keeping Sri Lanka’s total under 400.

West Brom must drop star who had fewer touches than Palmer vs Plymouth

West Bromwich Albion fans will be looking forward to today’s trip to South Yorkshire, hopeful that their confident side can extend their unbeaten early start in the Championship to seven games away at Sheffield Wednesday.

It hasn’t always been the prettiest football on the eye from Carlos Corberan’s table-toppers, but wins are continuing to be secured through grit and determination as much as the displays so far have blown the opposition away, with a slim 1-0 win over Plymouth Argyle achieved last time out courtesy of a second half strike from Josh Maja.

West Bromwich Albion manager Carlos Corberan.

On another day, West Brom could have fell found themselves surprisingly behind in this clash, with Baggies goalkeeper Alex Palmer standing out against the Pilgrims when his team needed him to be switched on and alert.

Palmer's performance vs Plymouth

It’s almost set in stone at this point that Palmer is Corberan’s number one shot-stopper, with the homegrown Baggies product present for every single competitive game the Spaniard oversaw from the sidelines last season, as he continues to be everpresent this campaign as well.

His top-drawer performances have seen him gain more plaudits during the infancy of this season too, with only two goals shipped in the league so far, as Palmer sits on four clean sheets already collected from six league clashes.

But, his side were nearly breached a number of times when Wayne Rooney’s Plymouth came to town last match.

Palmer had to make four saves in the even contest to ensure his team did end up securing the three points, whilst his distribution under pressure out from the back was also a standout from his personal display, with six accurate long balls tallied up.

West Brom goalkeeper Alex Palmer.

Whilst the constantly improving 28-year-old helped to shut out a tricky Plymouth side, other performers on the day for Corberan’s men had a quiet day at the office, including Tom Fellows who was nowhere near his rampaging best in attack against the visitors from Devon.

Fellows' performance vs Plymouth

The fellow academy prodigy could well find his position in the main West Brom XI isn’t as concrete as Palmer’s for the trip to Wednesday today, after failing to ever spark into life versus the Pilgrims.

Fellows would actually accumulate fewer touches of the ball than Palmer across the game – with the 21-year-old winger only managing to amass 26 touches next to the ‘keeper’s 47 – as the likes of John Swift and the aforementioned Maja stepped up in attack instead.

Looking at the table above, it was a quiet showing from the usually electric attacker, who does have a mightily impressive four assists next to his name still from six second-tier games.

Yet, Corberan might feel like utilising his full squad for the test of the Owls, which could see Fellows drop out as a result, who failed to be that creative presence that has scared Championship defences stiff this campaign against Plymouth, with zero accurate crosses registered to try and feed the likes of Maja up top.

Tom Fellows celebrates for West Brom.

Thankfully, new recruit Uros Racic would take on those responsibilities to gift the former Sunderland man a tap-in to win the finely poised affair, as Fellows was instead hooked off by Corberan deep into the second 45 minutes over picking up another goal contribution.

The likes of Jed Wallace – who did replace Fellows on the day – will be clamouring for a starting spot ahead of the Baggies youngster, therefore, to try and show what he can provide over the vibrant 21-year-old, whilst Grady Diangana will also be waiting in the background ready for his chance to shine down the flanks.

Corberan could also, on the contrary, keep his faith in Fellows by continuing to pick him, as West Brom strive to stay at the top of the second-tier table for as long as possible no matter what personnel is picked, with a potential win at Hillsborough only further boosting their rising confidence levels.

£53k-p/w Tottenham man now given transfer ultimatum, Ange doesn’t want him

Tottenham have handed a member of their first team a late transfer ultimatum as they look to trim their squad further in the final days of transfer windows around the globe.

Tottenham's summer transfers – trimming the fat

There was plenty of activity in north London over the summer, with Ange Postecoglou's side seeing several players leave and breaking their transfer record as they look to improve on their fifth placed Premier League finish from last season.

Four new first team players arrived, headlined by Dominic Solanke, who made the switch from Bournemouth to Tottenham in a deal worth £65m, a club record deal for the Lilywhites and a record sale for Bournemouth.

They also shelled out £60m on Championship pair Archie Gray (20-years-old) and Wilson Odobert (19-years-old), while Lucas Bergvall joined as part of an agreement completed in January, setting the club back a further £8.5m. But there were plenty of exits too. Midfielder Oliver Skipp left to join Leicester City, while Emerson Royal joined AC Milan and Joe Rodon completed a permanent move to Leeds United.

Giovani Lo Celso also completed a late move to Real Betis and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg swapped Tottenham for Marseille. Elsewhere, all of Japhet Tanganga, Ivan Perisic, Ryan Sessegnon and Tanguy N'dombele were released and Manor Solomon and Bryan Gil both left on loan.

It followed a clear plan of removing deadwood, with few of those let go having featured heavily for Postecoglou during his first season in charge.

Defender given Turkey transfer ultimatum

Now, The Sunday People [via Football Insider] report that Sergio Reguilon has been given a transfer ultimatum by Spurs in recent days not dissimilar to Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell's. Both left-backs are out of favour at their current sides and need to complete a move away, with Turkey the only nation whose transfer window remains open (it closes on Friday September 13th).

The Spaniard is down to the final year of his £53,000 per week deal and Ange Postecoglou has deemed him surplus to requirements, leaving him out of the club's UEFA Europa League squad for the first half of the season.

He spent last season out on loan with Manchester United and then Brentford, with his performances for the Red Devils coming in for plenty of praise.

"Reguilon’s done fantastic getting forward. He’s a good athlete with his forward runs. He’s been up and down [the flank]," Owen Hargreaves explained on TNT sport after Manchester United's 4-3 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

However, he is now facing months without first team football should he stay in north London, with Spurs having tried to sell him "throughout the summer" and now turning to Turkey as a last resort. With Chilwell also eyeing a move to Turkey, a late deal could be a tricky one to strike, but it is the Spaniard's last chance at regular football in the prime of his career.
